Psoriasis is more than just a skin condition; it’s an immune system response that manifests visibly on the skin, often causing discomfort, itchiness, and self-consciousness. At Valley View Dermatology, we understand the physical and emotional challenges of living with psoriasis and offer advanced treatments to help manage its symptoms and restore confidence in your appearance.

About the condition

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition resulting from an overactive immune system. This causes skin cells to multiply up to 10 times faster than normal, leading to raised, red plaques covered with silvery scales. These can appear anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the knees, elbows, scalp, and lower back.

What causes psoriasis?

The exact cause of psoriasis remains unclear, but it is believed to result from a combination of genetic, immune, and environmental factors. Triggers can include stress, infections, certain medications, and even minor skin injuries.  People with cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes are more susceptible to psoriasis.

When should I see a dermatologist about psoriasis?

Given the chronic nature of psoriasis and its potential complications, including psoriatic arthritis, it’s crucial to seek a dermatologist’s expertise. At Valley View Dermatology, our board-certified physicians will guide you through the best treatment options tailored to your needs. We partner with you, our patient, to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that will provide relief from this complex disorder.

I go there regularly for my psoriasis and have always had wonderful customer service. The receptionists are friendly and the nurses are all wonderful. I love the atmosphere of the waiting rooms. Highly recommended.
